The Tailoring Institute of CSI Christ Church, Virugambakkam, was established in 1999 by committee members Rasalam and Alexander, and has been operating for nearly 25 years with the continued support of the church. Initially led by Mrs. Ponmani Davis, the institute has successfully trained over 2,000 students, many of whom have gone on to start their own tailoring businesses, open shops, or gain employment in the garment industry.
Course Curriculum
The training program is carefully designed to equip students with essential and practical tailoring skills:
- Basic hand stitches and machine operation
- Measurement techniques and garment fitting
- Pattern drafting and construction
- Stitching of common garments like blouses, dresses, and churidars (including saree conversion)
- Embroidery basics, interfacing, lining, and simple design concepts

- 6-Month Beginner Course – Covers foundational tailoring skills
- 4-Month Advanced Course – For those seeking deeper expertise
- 1-Month Special Programs – Focused training for blouse and salwar making
- New Addition: 3-Month Aari Embroidery Course to enhance decorative and professional embroidery skills
